Geoff Kleinman: ” My wife and I have three kids and hadn’t been on a vacation for years. After looking at places we could go we decided that Portland has as much to offer as almost any city we were looking at, so we opted for a stay-cation.
Of course it rained, and so we ducked into the West Cafe for a romantic drink by their fireplace. …We were met by a friendly bar staff with great drinks and were serenaded by a local jazz vocalist. It could have been New York or Paris, but we didn’t have to spend hours on a plane or use a guidebook to try to find it. This gem is in our own city.”

Alicia Riedl: ” My friends and I ran the Pints to Pasta race in Portland back in 2007. Upon completing the race and rejoicing in our accomplishment, we headed over for our victory pasta. However, our stomachs had other ideas after seeing the very long line. So, we decided to take the streetcar into town and have brunch at West Cafe….
No one cared that we were in running gear and still sweaty. They kindly asked us how the race went and promptly took our drink order. We knew we should drink water, but we couldn’t resist a mimosa or two. The vitamin C held us over until our delicious meal arrived. We thanked our stomachs for their lack of patience and proceeded home for a much needed nap, knowing we would be back soon!”

Lindsay May: ” When we had friends in town from San Francisco we wanted to give them the Portland experience. We knew just the right place to go- the West Cafe. Cozy, friendly, great wine and fabulous food. We especially enjoyed the Salmon Sandwich.”

Kelly Caldwell: “On April 3rd I had my 38th Birthday Celebration at West Cafe. The food & the ambiance were perfect. Nick, the bartender went above and beyond the call of duty from the moment i made my reservation to the special drinks he made for me! Then people started saying “I’ll have what she’s having!” i wonder if my drink has a name?”

Carole Barkley: ” I will never forget being at West Cafe watching election returns on November 4. The food and drink were excellent, as always, but the palpable excitement in the room was amazing. When the tipping point came and we knew Barack Obama would be our president, people were clapping and cheering and laughing and crying and it… recalled for me the excitement when JFK was elected.”

Maury Evans: ” I grew up in Colorado with meat and potatoes only. So fish has never been much to my liking. Except maybe Filet-o-Fish from McDonalds (sad but true). This past Dec. I sang for a benefit for Our House put on by West Cafe and Michelle’s Piano. At the dinner put on by West Cafe, I had the choice of a steak or Halibut. … Of course I went with the familiar. However, all of my colleagues went with the Halibut. So I thought I would taste one of my friends Halibut steak. OMG! Too my surprise, the Halibut was amazing. It was so moist and had no…I mean NO fish taste or smell WHATSOEVER! I would definitely order the Halibut from West Cafe. West Cafe you made me a believer in the fish cuisine.”
